Metal Crypt review

13/04/2005

Here's another one that slipped through the cracks. I really need to clean up my desk. Anyway, Indigent is a one-man band playing an mix of death and black metal. I've seen this totally trashed in a review somewhere, some time ago. It's not nearly as bad as what was said in that review, but it's not great either. Keeping in mind that this is a demo, the sound is adequate. The music is a mix of simple death metal and raw black metal, and this is where I'm a bit uneasy: It's all been done before, to the point of some passages strangely reminding me of other bands I've heard in the past. I won't go as far as call this a ripoff, but there's some copycat operation going on here to some extent. The music is OK overall, with some songs that sound a bit too chaotic (in the bad sense of the term) at times and could have used a bit more work. The vocals are low growls and I found those less annoying that the usual deep and more "high-pitched" growls. It's decent, but the sole member should look into doing something different to distance himself from this already overcrowded scene, because the material presented here just won't be noticed in the sea of bands out there.
